(日志800) 21 What's the Railroad to Me? Henry David Thoreau梭罗 译/猎人hunter560 (2010年2月9日 星期二) What's the railroad to me? I never go to see Where it ends. It fills a few hollows, And makes banks for the swallows, It sets the sand a-blowing, And the blackberries a-growing. ......

(日志799) 07/22 Indeed, Indeed I Cannot Tell真的,真的,我不能告诉你 --Henry David Thoreau亨利·大卫·梭罗 译/猎人hunter560 (2010年2月7日 星期日) Indeed, indeed, I cannot tell, Though I ponder on it well, Which were easier to state, All my love or all my hate. Surely, surely, thou wilt trust me When I say thou dost disgust me. O, I hate thee with a hate That would fain annihilate; Yet sometimes against my will, My dear friend, I love thee still. It were treason to our love, And a sin to God above, One iota to abate Of a pure impartial hate. ......

Never did sun more beautifully steep In his first splendour, valley, rock, or hill; Ne’er saw I, never felt, a call so deep! The river glideth at his own sweet will: Dear God! The very houses seem asleep; And all that mighty heart is lying still!

The grass keeps on growing as The moss covers my name. Everyone can carry on without me. I know all of God's little secrets. Sinking further down or Floating further up. Dissapearing from you. I was gone decades ago. A broken circle of communication, I am the end. I hear no pain of mourning. There are no tears to moisten my soil. Gripped with regret, I decay Drifting further away. Never known for evil, Never known for good. My glory days were given away. Oh! Hail! Wow! Heaven! My heaven! Thank heaven! Beasts have dens, Rabbits have holes, Bees have their combs, Cattle have their sheds, Horses have their stables, Sheep have their sheep-pens, Birds have their nests and cages, Snails have shells on their backs, Every creature living in this planet Should have places to rest to shelter And to Die in! Poorest are we human beings! We have no caves to shelter us, No shells to carry on our backs. We must make money to buy one. Can we afford buying a big house? No, of course not, not—neither A house, nor a small apartment— A set of two box-like rooms, which Is like a toy in a store of department. Back to four thousands years ago, There were slaves in ancient Egypt , Who toiled all day long under the sun, Driven by the whips of the slave-owners, To built huge pyramids—pharaohs' tombs. Then more than one hundred years ago, There were also black slaves in America, Who were tortured in the farmlands, To produce white cotton and golden corn. We are now in the twenty-first century, There are still some slaves in our country. They are’nt slaves sociologically, But economically and mentally. That’s because you have bought a flat. After you have paid the first payment, Which empties all your savings in the bank, You have been proudly listed in slaves rank. Every month, the heavy burden of mortgage Presses on your body and soul till old age. Complain not and calm down and pluck up! For the decision that you yourself make it up. Since buying a shelter is your option and will, You can add this property someday in the will! ......

(日志789) Long Distance II长距离II - Tony Harrison (1937--) 译/猎人hunter560 (2008年5月) Though my mother was already two years dead Dad kept her slippers warming by the gas, put hot water bottles her side of the bed and still went to renew her transport pass. You couldn't just drop in. You had to phone. He'd put you off an hour to give him time to clear away her things and look alone as though his still raw love were such a crime. He couldn't risk my blight of disbelief though sure that very soon he'd hear her key scrape in the rusted lock and end his grief.
