汝龙同志离我们而去已经半年多了，可是在我的心目中仍觉得他坐在书桌前像往常一样，抽着烟卷，在翻译契诃夫的小说。他一生勤勤恳恳、夜以继日地埋头苦干、不图名不图利。从1937年开始学习创作，后致力于俄国进步文学的翻译工作，直到去世，从未间断，共译出近一千万字译稿，对介绍俄国文学做出了贡献。他不论遇到什么困难，都坚持干下去，这是他要为祖国、为人民做点有益工作的理想支持着他。他对文学翻译工作的执著和认真，对自己和亲属作人的严格要求，仍萦绕在我的心头。他今默默无闻地去了，我仅以此文纪念他一生的奋斗过程。
一、从出生到抗战：受新文学影响

汝龙1916年生于苏州，因是长孙，受祖母溺爱。他的父亲在上海交大毕业后分配到北京(解放前叫北平)平绥铁路局工作，他六岁时随母亲和姐姐一同来到北京。他的父亲看不惯他从小娇生惯养、顽皮任性，就严加管教，逼他学好数学，每星期日必须作四则应用题若干道，希望他长大也做工程师，接父亲的班。但他数学虽然学得很好，却不喜欢，他喜欢看古典小说，如《封神榜》(现改名《封神演义》)等，看得入迷......
