  Break, break, break,
  On thy cold gray stones, O Sea!
  And I would that my tongue could utter
  The thoughts that arise in me.
  O, well for the fisherman's boy,
  That he shouts with his sister at play!
  O, well for the sailor lad,
  That he sings in his boat on the bay!
  And the stately ships go on
  To their haven under the hill;
  But O for the touch of a vanished hand,
  And the sound of a voice that is still!
  目标山下港口在盼;
  Break, break, break,
  At the foot of thy crags, O Sea!
  But the tender grace of a day that is dead
  Will never come back to me.

1. utter:
2. stately:
3. haven:
4. crag:


Tears, idle tears, I know not what they mean,
Tears from the depth of some divine despair
Rise in the heart, and gather to the eyes,
In looking on the happy Autumn-fields,

Fresh as the first beam glittering on a sail,
That brings our friends up from the underworld,
Sad as the last which reddens over one
That sinks with all we love below the verge;
So sad, so fresh, the days that are no more.

Ah, sad and strange as in dark summer dawns
The earliest pipe of half-awakened birds

The casement slowly grows a glimmering square;
So sad, so strange, the days that are no more.

I
Airy, Fairy Lilian,
Flitting, fairy Lilian,
When I ask her if she love me,
Claps her tiny hands above me,

  The Beggar Maid 乞丐少女- Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892)丁尼生

  Her arms across her breast she laid;
  She was more fair than words can say:
  Bare-footed came the beggar maid
  Before the king Cophetua.
  In robe and crown the king stept down,
  To meet and greet her on her way;
  "It is no wonder," said the lords,
  "She is more beautiful than day".
  她的双臂交叉在胸前;
  到她面前把她细看;
  As shines the moon in clouded skies,
  She in her poor attire was seen:
  One praised her ankles, one her eyes,
  One her dark hair and lovesome mien:
  So sweet a face, such angel grace,
  In all that land had never been:
  Cophetua sware a royal oath:
  "This beggar maid shall be my queen!"

译丁尼生诗All Things will Die万物皆会消亡

06 All Things will Die万物皆会消亡 --Alfred Lord Tennyson丁尼生

All Things will Die

Clearly the blue river chimes in its flowing
Under my eye;
Warmly and broadly the south winds are blowing
Over the sky.
One after another the white clouds are fleeting;
Every heart this May morning in joyance is beating
Full merrily;
Yet all things must die.
The stream will cease to flow;
The wind will cease to blow;
The clouds will cease to fleet;
The heart will cease to beat;
For all things must die.
All things must die.
Spring will come never more.
O, vanity!
Death waits at the door.
See! our friends are all forsaking
The wine and the merrymaking.
We are call’d–we must go.
Laid low, very low,
In the dark we must lie.
The merry glees are still;
The voice of the bird
Shall no more be heard,
Nor the wind on the hill.
O, misery!
Hark! death is calling
While I speak to ye,
The jaw is falling,
The red cheek paling,
The strong limbs failing;
Ice with the warm blood mixing;
The eyeballs fixing.
Nine times goes the passing bell:
Ye merry souls, farewell.
The old earth
Had a birth,
As all men know,
Long ago.
And the old earth must die.
So let the warm winds range,
And the blue wave beat the shore;
For even and morn
Ye will never see
Thro’ eternity.
All things were born.
Ye will come never more,
For all things must die.

在我眼前;
朵朵白云飞逝连绵不断;
跳动正欢;
风儿会停止吹拂;
白云会停止飞扬;
心脏会停止搏动;
因万物定会消亡;
高兴和欢乐不见;
强壮的四肢疲软;
冰与热血相混;
让海岸拍击碧浪;

  It is the miller's daughter,
  And she is grown so dear, so dear,
  That I would be the jewel
  That trembles in her ear:
  For hid in ringlets day and night,
  I'd touch her neck so warm and white.
  And I would be the girdle
  About her dainty dainty waist,
  And her heart would beat against me,
  In sorrow and in rest:
  And I should know if it beat right,
  I'd clasp it round so close and tight.
  And I would be the necklace,
  And all day long to fall and rise
  Upon her balmy bosom,
  With her laughter or her sighs:
  And I would lie so light, so light,
  I scarce should be unclasp'd at night.

  04 A Farewell 告别 -Alfred Lord Tennyson -丁尼生

  Flow down, cold rivulet, to the sea,
  Thy tribute wave deliver:
  No more by thee my steps shall be,
  For ever and for ever.
  Flow, softly flow, by lawn and lea,
  A rivulet then a river:
  Nowhere by thee my steps shall be
  For ever and for ever.
  But here will sigh thine alder tree
  And here thine aspen shiver;
  And here by thee will hum the bee,
  For ever and for ever.
  你的白杨颤栗;
  A thousand suns will stream on thee,
  A thousand moons will quiver;
  But not by thee my steps shall be,
  For ever and for ever.
  千个月亮颤栗;

  03‘And ask ye why these sad tears stream?’
-Alfred Lord Tennyson

  And ask ye why these sad tears stream?
  Why these wan eyes are dim with weeping?
  I had a dream–a lovely dream,
  Of her that in the grave is sleeping.
  I saw her as ’twas yesterday,
  The bloom upon her cheek still glowing;
  And round her play’d a golden ray,
  And on her brows were gay flowers blowing.
  红润的面颊依然闪亮;
  With angel-hand she swept a lyre,
  A garland red with roses bound it;
  Its strings were wreath’d with lambent fire
  And amaranth was woven round it.
  红玫瑰花环跳跃其上;
  I saw her mid the realms of light,
  In everlasting radiance gleaming;
  Co-equal with the seraphs bright,
  Mid thousand thousand angels beaming.
  永恒的光辉熠熠闪亮;
  I strove to reach her, when, behold,
  Those fairy forms of bliss Elysian,
  And all that rich scene wrapt in gold,
  Faded in air–a lovely vision!
  And I awoke, but oh! to me
  That waking hour was doubly weary;
  And yet I could not envy thee,
  Although so blest, and I so dreary.
  梦醒时刻我倍感疲惫神伤;

  07 Ask Me No More 勿再问我 -Alfred Lord Tennyson丁尼生

  Ask me no more: the moon may draw the sea;
  The cloud may stoop from heaven and take the shape,
  With fold to fold, of mountain or of cape;
  But O too fond, when have I answer'd thee?
  Ask me no more.
  勿再问我:月亮可能吸引海水;
  成为海角和山峦;
  Ask me no more: what answer should I give?
  I love not hollow cheek or faded eye:
  Yet, O my friend, I will not have thee die!
  Ask me no more, lest I should bid thee live;
  Ask me no more.
  勿再问我,不然我应该叫你活;
  Ask me no more: thy fate and mine are seal'd:
  I strove against the stream and all in vain:
  Let the great river take me to the main:
  No more, dear love, for at a touch I yield;
  Ask me no more.
  勿问,亲爱的,因你一问,我就会屈从你;
