 White Lie1 Ivan and her cousin Alice got along well. No matter what kind of things Ivan met, he always liked to bare his mind to Alice. Last month, Ivan went to an outlying2 village for a holiday and he got to know a lady named Lily there. Lily had a nephew whose name was Bill. Bill’s mother had died six years ago, so Lily took care of Bill by herself. Lily lied3 to Bill that his father did business in France. In fact, Bill’s father died before Bill was born. Bill had been studying hard because Lily told him that his father would come back to see him if he studied well. Bill lay first4 non-stop for several years. But he never saw his father’s face. Every time he asked Lily sadly, “Daddy didn’t come to see me just because I was not good?” Bill’s words really hurt Lily’s heart. Ivan was touched by this story, he made a decision to be Bill’s “father”. Ivan was together with Bill posing as his father. Ivan and Bill loved each other. In a week, Ivan and Bill became too close to be apart. Finally, Ivan had to leave, but before his departure, Ivan said to Bill, “Bill, if you obey your aunt, I will see you again next time.” Bill held Ivan’s hand tightly and said, “I will!
